Dr. Rachel Loftin will present an overview of social development in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Patterns of communication and thinking that can interfere with the development of relationships will be discussed, as well as how to decide on the specific skills to target in a social skills intervention.

Dr. Loftin is a clinical & school psychologist in private practice and adjunct faculty in the Psychiatry Department at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Loftin specializes in diagnosis of treatment of people with ASD throughout the lifespan. Dr. Loftin has particular interest in legal issues that can affect people with ASD. She is also on the board of Community Support Services. Dr. Loftin earned her PhD at Indiana University and completed pre and post-doctoral fellowships in developmental disorders at the Child Study Center at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Loftin also completed a social policy fellowship in the Edward Zigler Center while at Yale and continues to consider social advocacy an important component of her work.
